Aloo Pies (Potato bakes)
Makes 12 good size bakes
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp margarine
- 2 tbsp lard
- 4 medium potatoes
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 3 tsp sugar
- Black pepper
- Hot pepper
- Ground geera (cumin)
- Green seasoning
- Cilantro (optional)
- Green onion/ onion (optional)
- Peas, carrots or corn (optional)
Method
- Mix flour, baking powder, salt and water. Knead lightly.
- Set aside to raise covered with a bowl or a damp cloth
- Boil potatoes and mash well.
- Add seasonings to potato and mix well.
- Divide dough into balls. Roll flat and fill with potato
- Deep fry until golden brown
- Makes 9-12 pies
- Serve with tamarind sauce
