Aloo Pies (Potato bakes)

Makes 12 good size bakes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 2 tbsp lard
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • Black pepper
  • Hot pepper
  • Ground geera (cumin)
  • Green seasoning
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • Green onion/ onion (optional)
  • Peas, carrots or corn (optional)

Method

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and water. Knead lightly.
  2. Set aside to raise covered with a bowl or a damp cloth
  3. Boil potatoes and mash well.
  4. Add seasonings to potato and mix well.
  5. Divide dough into balls. Roll flat and fill with potato
  6. Deep fry until golden brown
  7. Makes 9-12 pies
  8. Serve with tamarind sauce
