Hot Cross Buns

Easter Delight!

Hot Cross Buns

 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Warm Water
  • 2 tbsp Yeast
  • 6 cups Flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup Butter or Margarine
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 Eggs beaten, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup Mix Peel

 

Method

  1. Add 2 tsp of sugar to warm water, stir then add yeast
  2. Let yeast rise
  3. Add warm milk, sugar, butter and salt
  4. Add half the flour and stir until smooth
  5. Add eggs and beat well
  6. Add rest of flour until dough is soft and does not stick to bowl
  7. Place in greased bowl and cover with cloth to raise until double in size, approx 2-3hrs
  8. Knead dough down then make small balls
  9. Cut cross on top of balls
  10. Put on tray, cover and let rise until double in size
  11. Bake for 10 mins at 375F (190C)
  12. Then 15-20 mins at 350F (175C) until golden brown
  13. Frost buns while still warm
