Cabbage Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1 lb Ground pork
- 1 cup Cooked rice
- 1 Egg
- 1 onion diced
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 stalk celery diced
- 1/2 red pepper diced
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves minced
- 1 table spoon Lea and Perrins sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- Black pepper
- Salt
- 1 large savoy or Taiwan cabbage Cabbage
- 1 jar Tomato pasta sauce - Classico Sweet Basil marinara mixed with one tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Cook rice, fluff and let cool
- Mix the meat seasonings and rice. Do not over mix .
- Cut out centre core of cabbage. Blanch whole cabbage. Remove outside leaves, cut out hard centre stem and split in half if needed.
- If needed re-blanch cabbage to remove inner layers.
- Roll meat in cabbage leaves and place in baking dish.
- Cover in pasta sauce and bake at 375 for about 1 hour
- Serve with pasta, mashed potatoes or rice.
