Cabbage Rolls

Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef 
  • 1 lb Ground pork
  • 1 cup Cooked rice
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 stalk celery diced 
  • 1/2 red pepper diced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves minced
  • 1 table spoon Lea and Perrins sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  • 1 large savoy or Taiwan cabbage Cabbage
  • 1 jar Tomato pasta sauce - Classico Sweet Basil marinara mixed with one tablespoon sugar

 

Instructions

  1. Cook rice, fluff and let cool
  2. Mix the meat seasonings and rice. Do not over mix .
  3. Cut out centre core of cabbage. Blanch whole cabbage. Remove outside leaves, cut out hard centre stem and split in half if needed.
  4. If needed re-blanch cabbage to remove inner layers.
  5. Roll meat in cabbage leaves and place in baking dish.
  6. Cover in pasta sauce and bake at 375 for about 1 hour 
  7. Serve with pasta, mashed potatoes or rice.
